Major Fire Destroys Part of Sennheiser´s Plant in Ireland

The Executive Committee of audio specialist Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG has reported that its production site in Tullamore, Ireland, was heavily damaged by fire in the early hours of Monday morning.  A major section of the building was gutted by flames, with the production area being particularly badly hit.  Fortunately, no-one was injured in the fire.  Sennheiser produces headphones at the plant in County Offaly.

In spite of the substantial damage to the factory, Peter Callan, General Manager of Sennheiser Ireland, is confident that deliveries of traded goods will soon be resumed.  Production at the plant itself, however, will be considerably disrupted for several weeks.  The cause of the fire is as yet unknown.

Rolf Meyer, President Marketing & Sales and speaker of the Executive Committee, confirmed his commitment to Ireland as a company location. "We immediately began the process of rebuilding the Tullamore factory.  Volker Bartels, President Manufacturing, is currently at the site to coordinate all activities together with Peter Callan and to get the factory back into production as quickly as possible.  The entire Sennheiser Ireland team is doing everything it can to support them."

In addition to the production facility in Ireland, Sennheiser has three other factories, two in Germany and one in the USA.

As one of the world's leading manufacturers of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems, the Sennheiser Group with its headquarters in Wedemark near Hanover, Germany, had total sales of over €229 million in 2002, with exports accounting for 80%. Sennheiser has a total workforce of approx. 1,500, of whom 800 are employed in Germany. Sennheiser is active worldwide and, in addition to other partnerships, has its own sales subsidiaries in France, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, China, Singapore, Canada, Mexico and the USA.
