New products and record sales with musical BASH
Sennheiser UK celebrated the launch of several new products, including the evolution ew 550 touring RF receiver and D.A.S. Compact 1 self powered reinforcement cab and all time record breaking sales success at this year’s PLASA exhibition, with a mega party at London’s Planet Hollywood.
An all-night line-up of entertainment for 500 industry guests was headlined by the John Jorgenson Band, flying in from the US for a short UK tour which included not only their party set but also a Sennheiser sponsored masterclass and performance at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
Jorgenson, a respected Sennheiser artist endorsee, exclusively uses both microphones and radio guitar systems. His current band, featuring Charlie Morgan on drums, Alan Thomson on bass and Jeff Ross on keys, follows many years with the Elton John Band and provides an opportunity for him to air a considerable body of work from a career spanning work with the likes of Desert Rose Band, Hellecasters, Hank Williams, Bob Seger and various personnel from the Eagles and The Byrds.
Sennheiser’s presence at this year’s PLASA exhibition was marked by a much expanded stand, featuring not only Sennheiser, evolution and Neumann product lines, but also a dedicated D.A.S. Audio sound booth, the newly distributed MindPrint range of signal processors and ELAC NXT panels. The company also set an all time record for the value of orders placed by its customers at any trade show.
"The significance of PLASA for our business increases every year," commented John Steven, Director of Marketing. "But the rate of growth was greater this year than ever before. Given a background of generally more difficult trading conditions throughout the industry, that success is an all the more significant reflection of the strength both of the company and our product lines."
The PA rig for the Planet Hollywood party featured a good deal of those products, including the new D.A.S. Class-D self powered Compact 1 and SUB118A cabinets, as well as a stage full of evolution microphones. The guests included a considerable head count of noted producers, studio and live sound engineers, musicians and Sennheiser customers.
Commenting on the revelry Steven said, "It was a fitting celebration of a record PLASA performance. Sennheiser parties are becoming near legendary around the major international trade exhibitions and it was our job to see that the UK kept up that form. I think we can say that we did it in fine style."
