Peter Maffay

With hits such as “Eiszeit” (Ice Age), “Über sieben Brücken” (Across Seven Bridges), “Sonne in der Nacht” (Sun in the Night), “Siehst du die Sonne” (Do You See the Sun) or Tabaluga’s “Ich wollte nie erwachsen sein” (I Never Wanted To Be Grown Up), Peter Maffay has been writing musical history for a long time, alongside ambitious projects of international ranking such as “Begegnungen I +II” (Meetings I + II). From January 2009 Peter Maffay and his band will embark on the great “Peter Maffay Tour 09”. The “Schritt nach vorne“ (Step Forwards) also applies to this concept, because the tour will not visit the large arenas, as is usual. Instead, the band will be appearing in philharmonic and concert halls in Germany and Switzerland and, in doing so, is entering new artistic terrain.
With more than 40 million records sold, for about four decades Peter Maffay has been regarded as one of the most successful German rock musicians of all time and has come to be a permanent fixture in the charts and concert halls. The man from Siebenbürgen has reached the number one spot in the German charts with no less than 13 albums – more top positions than any other national or international musician. Up to 700,000 spectators per tour have seen his shows in the past decades. Peter Maffay also has a high reputation internationally, not least owing to his concept tours and “Begegnungen” (Meetings) albums, which were the result of collaboration with famous artists around the world. For his musical success and his commitment to political and charitable causes, the artist has received many accolades, among them the World Vision Charity Award and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as two Bambi awards and various ECHOs.
